The Café at Selby Railway Station offers a straightforward and reliable stop for anyone passing through the station or starting their day nearby. It’s a cosy, no-fuss café nestled right on the platform, serving up hot drinks and quick bites that suit the pace of travellers and locals alike.

Morning commuters and shift workers seem to especially appreciate this spot, thanks to its efficient service that doesn’t sacrifice friendliness. Staff are attentive to the rush of train schedules, often tailoring their pace to ensure you can grab a hot bacon sandwich or toastie without missing your connection. The bacon sandwich, in particular, stands out — freshly cooked with soft bread and a hint of salty butter, it’s a solid pick to fuel a long day.

The drinks menu is simple but covers the essentials, from robust cappuccinos (with dairy-free options) to classic teas and hot chocolates, offering something familiar for a quick pick-me-up or a moment to settle before the train. Many customers note the welcoming atmosphere created by the staff, lending a touch of warmth to what can otherwise be a hurried space.

This café suits early mornings best, when the platform buzzes lightly with a mix of locals and travellers. It’s not a spot for lingering, more a practical, cheerful pit stop that fits neatly into the rhythm of daily travel or simply a quick snack break. Expect a compact seating area with enough space to rest briefly, but most visitors grab their food and drink to go.

If you find yourself needing a no-nonsense coffee and a hearty sandwich before heading off on your train, this is the kind of place that knows exactly what you need — friendly, efficient, and just a stone’s throw from the platform.

I was short for time one morning and needed to grab some breakfast as there was no buffet car on the train. The lady at the café was so helpful, checking my train time first and advising me that there would be just enough time to get something. She made the breakfast quickly and simply so I wouldn't miss my train, with a cup of tea to go with it . Safe to say I didn't miss my train thank you .

Great independent café (local business, not a chain and not owned by the train company), inside the station. Just on platform 1 (direction of Hull), with a hatch onto the platform, so you can order your drink without going in. Sells local papers as well as pastries. Good range of teas and coffees, and lovely friendly staff. Clean and well laid out, they have made it feel cosy and relaxed despite the location. Regular customer told me that when she gets anxious about her train, they have offered to bring her coffee out to her on the platform. I got money off for bringing my own cup, which is always nice. Worth more of a visit than I had time for! Seems to be cash only at the moment.
